Holy Wednesday in the Greek Orthodox Church is dedicated to the commemoration of the sinful woman who anointed Jesus with myrrh before his crucifixion and the betrayal by Judas Iscariot. Its primary, distinct service is the Sacrament of Holy Unction (Efchelaio), held in the evening, where the faithful are anointed with blessed oil for the healing of body and soul, and the remission of sins.
